Everyone has the right to gather peacefully without weapons, in groups of any size, and to hold meetings, rallies, demonstrations, marches, and picket in public squares and other public places.

A Plan for our Human Family
A key piece of Article 5 is that it creates a right to assemble “without weapons.” Research and experience, along with the teachings of Gandhi, has shown that assertive non-violent protest is more effective than violent protest.
